In small and large towns, garbage dumps are common. Usually there is a section in the dump for organic waste(e.g.-stumps, leaves, grass clippings). As it accumulates the town or cities have to get rid of it some how. Some cart it away, and some deal with it themselves. Most towns either use a tub grinder or a waste recycler. Tub grinders can range from a small model that can be pulled by a light duty pickup truck to a model that can grind up to 500 yards/hour. Most larger models can be equipped with a knuckleboom loader to speed up operation. The way the tub grinder works is as follows: The tub rotates around and around moving the material down to the hammermill, the hammermill grinds up the waste like a wood chipper. The final size of the material is determined by the screens. If some pieces are to big they are grinded again until their size is normal. The screens and hammermill are easily removalable to provide screens and hammermills for different materials. After the material leaves the grinder it is usually conveyed by a conveyor. The ground up material is sometimes sol and sometimes put to decompose into compost. A waste recycler is like a tub grinder except for a few things. it doesn't have a tub, and it is longer. The models range like tub grinder from small ones that can be pulled by a one ton truck to a large one that is pulled by a heavy duty truck. The waste recycler has a conveyor that moves material toward the hammermill, screens are placed to size material.
